Bergen Psychological Hypnosis
"Once in a while you get shown the light
in the strangest of places if you look at it right."
~ Robert Hunter ~
The above lyric represents, for me, the omnipresent opportunity for change. All too often we find ourselves in familiar yet unsatisfying experiences and situations. How we alter our experience and extricate ourselves from these less than enjoyable cycles is one element in the process of psychotherapy.
Successful psychotherapy depends on a host of factors. Chief among them is the goodness of fit between you and the person with whom you choose to work. Given the extent to which I believe this, I routinely suggest that folks meet, or at least speak, with 2 to 3 potential therapists allowing them to get a sense of what they are looking for and whether this particular therapist is someone with whom they believe they can work.
Some people are curious about my theoretical orientation. I can tell you that the orientation of my doctoral program was psychodynamic with strong interpersonal and self-psychological leanings but I am not sure that would mean a great deal to many people and, more importantly, what I have come to understand about the process of psychotherapy in the 25 plus years since I completed my doctorate, has led me to an eclectic mix that includes and combines among other therapies: cognitive-behavioral, family systems, solution focused, ego psychology, narrative therapy and, of course, hypnosis.
The real answer is that you and I will co create a therapy that is unique and individually tailored to you and your situation.
